I always start with the yarn.

Every type of fiber has its own characteristics. Even within the same type of fiber, the twists & plies of the yarn, as well as the method of spinning can produce yarns that behave very differently when knit. Some are best for airy knits, some for thick bulky pieces, some for sturdy hats.

Each spring I sample about 20 new yarns to swatch for the upcoming Fall/ Winter season. They are tested for drape, stitch definition, hand (softness against skin), stretch memory, and durability. The yarn I select for each design is not random, but the result of many trials and improvements.

Wool is an amazing fiber. It is gentle on your skin, springs back into shape after wear, regulates body heat, and a natural renewable source. With a little care, it gets better with age, and will last many years unlike synthetics.

More than half of the yarns used in my designs come from independent mills or sheep farmers from the U.S.A. These fibers are raised, cleaned, dyed and spun in the Midwest, and East Coast. Not only are these yarns beautiful in color & texture, but they are made by people who are passionate about what they do, and the products they make.

It is easy to care for your wools & alpacas. Launder them once or twice a season depending on wear (they do not get dirty easily like cotton). A 30 minute soak in cool water with wool wash (I recommend Eucalan) or a few drops of regular shampoo, squeeze out all the water (do not wring) or roll it in a towel, gently reshape & lay flat to dry. Please remember to store them away in an air tight bag between seasons to keep the moths away.

Knitting is a slow craft that I think deserves quality materials, and care. Every piece is carefully made, washed & blocked to ensure the item you receive is the best it can be.
